Spookfest! Halloween Play Ideas for Your Mini Ghoul
by The American Specialty Toy Retailing Association   |   October 20   |   0 Comments
As the nights get darker and Halloween lurks just around the corner, there are plenty of fun spook-tacular games and crafts to get your family in the mood for a hauntingly fun Halloween!

Why limit the games and crafts to simple pumpkin carving? Among the black stuffed cats and costumes kids can immerse themselves into a not-so-scary but very silly world of zombies with Zombie Run by Haywire. Suggested by Kristen Pollard owner of Muddle Puddle Toys, the game card game focuses on strategy and skill to get the least amount of zombies in your hand.

Kristen is no stranger to Halloween-themed toys. “Our store is in Salem (Massachusetts), so Halloween is very touristy here. We get a lot of kids asking for the Ouija boards, and a lot of parents telling them no! I have a lot of guests come back with stories about creepy things that happen with the boards - - I don’t let them tell me anything too scary!”

But when Ouija boards become too spooky, Kristen suggests keeping kids entertained without giving up the holiday spirit. “The Halloween tattoo kits, hair chalk--Klutz makes a great face paint kit! And Clue is a great board game for Halloween too, the classic mystery of it is fun.”

And if you have any boys or ghouls that lean towards the craftier side? Katie Culotta from Victoria’s Toy Station in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, suggests Shrinky Dinks, “Shrinky Dinks Monster Lab is simply precious, you can just color it and put it in the oven and you get decorations instantly! It lasts way longer than candy.”

The Monster Lab comes with a 3-D pop up play space and 50+ Shrinky Dinks ready to color and bake!

For younger children, Katie suggests The Original Miracle Melting Pumpkin. “You put the nose and the mouth in and it melts right in front of your eyes!” Katie explains. “And it’s reusable so you can use it over and over again-- perfect for keeping kids entertained at restaurants. It also comes in a witch form!”

The Doll House and Toy Store is highlighting the importance of fun and safety this Halloween.“We've got plenty of the glow sticks and glow-in-the-dark items for trick or treaters so they can stay visible” shares Dan Powazek. Glow-in-the-dark items are a great way to keep kids visible at night while out getting plenty of candy. Kids think they’re fun, too!

Going beyond the pumpkin this Halloween for an experience that all treats and no tricks with these fun games, toys, and crafts!
